Iev Khov

My name is Iev, pronounced like the abbreviated version of “I have”. I’m a first generation college graduate from UC Davis. I’ve been programming since high school. At first, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life until my high school offered its first computer science class during my senior year. When I took it, I totally fell in love with programming and decided to go towards this field. While in college, due to financial reasons, I’ve always been working and focusing in school. During the summer, I get to relax a bit from coursework, but I would still work a part-time job or do an internship. I like to stay busy or else I’ll feel unproductive.

I started out doing a lot of web development. I used frameworks such as ASP.NET and Drupal to make websites through personal projects, internships, and part-time jobs. I did an internship as a web developer intern for 4 months at a non-profit organization in Davis, California and they hired me after to be their part-time student worker. This experience was where I worked with Drupal and backend web development. I stayed at the non-profit for a year, but I didn’t see a career growth because I did more administrative work than programming so I looked for another internship and did a web developer internship again for the Plant Sciences Department at UC Davis. This was where I worked with ASP.NET and C#. By the end of this internship, I helped create several new web pages for a website revamped for a graduate group at UC Davis. Currently, I’m a mobile developer at the UC Davis Information and Educational Technology as part of a student development program. This allows me to get exposure to an actual work environment such as being part of an agile development team, dealing with deadlines, doing code reviews, and working with git and issue tracking softwares like Jira. I do both Android and iOS development. I’m mainly focused on iOS right now because I’m the only one available to do iOS development besides my supervisor. I have been doing this for more than a year now while attending school.
